Solid water, in other words Ice.
Water. Properties of water are;has definite volume, intermolecular forces of attraction are weaker than in solids, lacks fixed shape(takes the shape of the container) and molecules are far apart
Solids are the only phase of matter which have a fixed shape and volume.
No state of matter corresponds to this. Solids are the only state with definite shape, but they have a definite volume too.
Yes it does. We know this because if you have a pump that is filled to the brim with water and try to pump, you will be incapable of doing so.
A solid has a fixed volume and shape. Like a bar of soap. A liquid has a fixed volume, but no fixed shape, like water. A gas has no fixed volume and no fixed shape. Like a burp. If you pour mouthwash into a glass, it still has volume, but now it takes on the shape of the glass. Hmmm. Sounds mighty liquidy, does it not?
water
The state of matter that has definite volume, but indefinite shape is the liquid state. A solid constantly has the same shape and volume. A wooden block (solid) will not change its shape or volume unless it is melted, but that would involve changing it from solid to liquid. A liquid constantly has the same volume, but its shape changes. Find a cylindrical container that has the same volume as a rectangular container. Fill the cylindrical container with water. Then, pour the water to the rectangular container. The shape of the water changed from cylindrical to rectangular and the volume remained the same, unless some water was dropped in the process. A gas has changing shape and volume. Find a small container full of a colored gas. Open in it inside a room. The gas will spread all over the room. Its volume changed from the volume of the container to the size of the room. Its shape has changed from the shape of the container to the shape of the room.
Fixed volume In terms of gases,is that a fixed volume would mean that the pressure, temperature and the number of molecules can change but the volume, or area in which the molecules lie, must remain constant. Think of a metal drinking bottle versus a plastic bottle. You cannot squirt water from a metal bottle because the shape is fixed, therefore the volume. You can squirt water from a plastic bottle because you can change the shape and reduce the volume.
The solids have definite(fixed) size and shape ::::::::: ::::::::: The Liguids have no definite(fixed) shape, but a definite volme, it will take up the shape of the conainer it is in. "":,.,;';',.;,'.,;'.,; ,;.',;.',;,';.',;.,,; The Gas has no definite(fixed) shape or volume, so it completely fills the container its in and takes the shape of the container. . .. . . "Definite shape and volume" refers to a solid. If water is solid, it means it is frozen - in that case it is called "ice".
Gas doesn't have a definite volume. Liquid has a definite volume but not shape. Solid has a definite shape and volume.
liquid does have definite volume, but it does not have a definite shape.Only ice (solid) phase has a definite volume and shapeIce( solid state), since solids are the only state of matter that has a definite mass volume and shape
