There were eleven states that seceded from the union, beginning in 1860. They were: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
South Carolina was the first (December 20th 1860). Six more followed at short intervals before the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter (April 12th 1861).
After that, the undecided states of the Upper South had to declare for one side or the other. Four of them went Confederate, and the other four stayed loyal.

One month after South Carolina seceded from the union TX, LA, MS, AL, GA, and FL seceded.
Texas seceded on February 1st.
They seceded from the Union because they did not want to lose the slaves that the plantation owners had. Thus, they seceded from the Union to keep them from losing their slaves.
