They claimed that the USA had started as a voluntary federation of states, and that any of them could leave when they chose.
On April 12, 1861, Southern forces opened fire at Fort Sumter. The bombardment lasted a day and a half. Finally, on April 13, 1861 and after 36 hours of shooting, the forces at the fort surrendered to the Confederates.
Because Lincoln had refused to allow any extension of slavery into the new Western states. So the South was doomed to be outvoted in Congress every time.
it is where ever the states government is located... like where their "capital" is
In the prelude-months before the formal beginning of the American Civil War, the event that prompted South Carolina to secede from the Union was the election of Abraham Lincoln as the 16th President of the United States. With Lincoln's strong anti-slavery sentiments well-known throughout the nation, South Carolina anticipated further attacks upon its slave-holding way of life; therefore, it chose to secede from the Lincoln-led Union rather than endure these anticipated attacks.
Quebec chose not to secede

they felt this way because they chose to be in the United States, so if they'd like they may leave.
Quebec
They did not all go out on the same day. The first was South Carolina, on December 20, 1860. By February, 1861, six more states from the deep south had also seceded. The other four of the upper south did not go out until after the firing on Fort Sumter. The day after Sumter surrendered Lincoln called on those states of the upper south to help fight the states of the lower south, so they had to chose whether to stay in the union and fight their neighbors, or go out and join with them. The last was North Carolina, on May 18, after Virginia and Tennessee had also done so, leaving them "surrounded" by states of the Confederacy.

Well I had this question on my History Final for FLVS and I chose: He was careful not to take any actions to cause other states to secede.
The Southern states claimed that they were entitled to break away, because the United States was a voluntary federation, from which any state could secede if it chose. Congress did not accept this. It refused to recognise the Confederacy as a sovereign nation, and declared those states to be in unlawful rebellion.
I believe that was West Viginia. This state separated from Virginia who joined the Confederate States. They chose not to secede but rather separated and formed a new state that became a "border state".
The general at fort Sumter wrote a letter to president Lincoln saying that they were running out of supplies. president Lincoln could send supplies, send troops or do nothing at all. If he sent supplies Sumter might get attacked. If he sent troops Sumter would definitely get attacked. If he did nothing the general would have to surrender so he was basically give Sumter to the south. he chose to send supplies. The southern leader found out about the supplies being sent so he too made a decision. he chose to attack Sumter before the supplies arrived. by doing so he started the Civil War.
No. The war events that unfolded into the US Civil War started with the Confederates attacking Fort Sumter. It happened April 12, 1861 at 4:30am. Fort Sumter is located in Charleston Harbor. When the US Supreme Court required an official date of the beginning of the war, they chose July of 1861. This is when Lincoln addressed the Congress for funds and the ability to recruit new soldiers into the struggle. The decision by the Court was rendered in 1862. As an aside, the US never declared war on the Confederacy, it was deemed a rebellion that had to be ended by military force.
