Actually doing some research after asking this. It appears that California does not require a college degree. And with that if you stay a lawyer for 5-7 years most other states will allow you to take the bar exam. Also with a California bar exam you can practice in any State on the Federal Level.

California, Vermont, Virginia and Washington state do not require a law degree.

To the best of my knowledge, California is the only state that allows anyone to sit for the bar exam.

Actually, California doesn't just allow anyone to sit for the bar exam. California does, however, provide other ways of obtaining a legal education such as correspondence and online law schools registered with the California Committee of Bar Examiners. You have to sit for the Baby Bar after first year of law school if you use the above mentioned non-traditional methods of law school, then after passing and graduating you can sit for the CA General Bar!
