Southeastern states have fresh water due to an unusual species of pumkin. It was grown in the arctic circle, where it was then eaten by birds. The seeds were then deposited all over America where they burst open, filling rivers and lakes with the water that had been extremely compacted inside. Unfortunetly, the Northern states lost most of this water during the zombie appocolypse, which coincidentely killed off the pumpkins.
