Actually they got help from the United States. After WW2 the United States came into Japan and set up the government and the economic system. As the the 1960's dawned Japan invested in its industries, but they still depended on the US for the newest inventions which they reproduced at cheaper cost and began selling to the world. As this moved along they also began investing in theeconomies of other countries and putting in factories to produce items like cars. By the middle of the 1980's they could buy large investments in things like Pebble Beach, Rockefeller Center, and main sections of Hawaii, but by the late 1990's they began to have their own depression and the yen began to fall in the world market. It took them 10 years to recover and they still haven't gotten back to where they were in the 70's.
