This movie was passed by numerous studios but New Line Cinema saw something in it. This was the first time that New Line Cinema actually funded a film themselves and it nearly bankrupted them. Thankfully a Nightmare on Elm Street was very successful. This is why they called New Line Cinema the house that Freddy built.
