The temperature of the room is around 25 ยบC or ~80 ยบF, if the melting point is greater than this, then the substance is a solid. If the melting point is less than room temperature but the boiling point is greater than the temperature of the room then the substance is a liquid and if the boiling pt is greater than the room or reference temperature then the substance is a gas.
