The one thing that all living organisms need, including plants and animals, is some sort of energy. Although the sun provides earth's main source of heat and light, not all organisms rely on the energy of the sun to evolve, grow and survive. In the deepest trenches of the ocean, where no light exists, where the water temperature reaches 250 degree F., life has found a way. Blind crabs, shrimp and giant tube worms thrive in this inhospitable environment on the micro-organisms produced by sulfur spewing vents originating deep from within the earths crust.
