Mexico has two large peninsulas: the large but slim Baja California Peninsula to the northwest and the triangular-shaped Yucatan Peninsula to the southeast.

  • Baja California is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Gulf of California (also known as Sea of Cortez) to the east.
  • Yucatan is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico to the north and west, while it faces the Caribbean Sea on its eastern shores.
