Scotland has never been conquered.

The Scottish Wars of Independence with England were a series of military campaigns fought between England and Scotland in the 13th and 14th centuries. These ended with Scotland retaining its independent status.

King James VI of Scotland became King James I of England when he inherited the English crown in 1603. Each country remained legally separate until the Act of Union in 1707 when the parliament of Great Britain was established, and the parliaments of England and Scotland abolished.
