This is where the gas exchange takes places to allow oxygen rich blood into the bloodstream and take out the carbon dioxide. In the body once the blood is oxygen rich in the bloodstream it travels through ateries and eventually to capillary beds where gas exchange takes place. The oxygen depleted blood travels back to the alveoli in the lungs and out into the atmosphere.
