What programs are needed for desktop publishing?

It depends on what type of publishing you plan on doing. If you plan on doing Graphic publishing I would start with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Jasc Paint Shop Pro. There are thousand of other graphic arts programs but these are the basic. If you plan on publishing text, I would start with Microsoft Office or Corel Word Perfect. If you plan on publishing screen plays go with Final Draft Pro. For publishing music I use Propellerheads Reason 4 and Fruity Loops Producer Edition, for editing I use Sony Audition, Sony Acid Pro, Cakewalk and Pro tools. Hope that was a little helpful on what you need. Oh yeah If you plan on publishing cad drawings *drafting* I would use ASC, or AutoCad :)
