Try to keep their cage between 70-82 degrees. if this is not possible you should spray their cage twice a day with lukewarm water. a couple squirts will keep the cage humid and the hermit happy!

Hermit Crabs should never be living under a heat lamp or in temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius. They should always be kept at room temperature. I have 2 Hermit Crabs and I have had them for about a year

80F is recommended, but it's best to have a gradient through your tank of about 85 on the hot side, down to 80 on the cool side. Many species like it hotter than 80, and having a gradient established can help them find a comfortable spot.

For freshwater crabs, it is best to keep their water at room temperature. If you have saltwater crabs, it is best to keep their water the same temperature as their natural habitat. If you got them from the ocean or a pet store, measure the water temp and try to keep your water at that temp. Only do this when the crabs are out and about, not when they are hibernating.

Is it safe to put hermit crabs in a bay window during the summer?

NO! It is never safe to have hermit crabs next to a window. The temperature fluctuates too much. In the summer, the sun can come through causing your tank temperature to rise dramatically, possibly baking your crabs. Hermit crabs need a fairly stable environment of 80 degF and 80% humidity. Next to a window, these conditions are hard, if not impossible to maintain.
