A soldering iron is a metal hand held probe type object heated by gas or electric for melting solder (a mixture of tin and lead). Solder is normally used for joining electrical wires and making soldered, leak proof, connections between pieces of copper pipe. It is however very hot, reaching temperatures of over 400 degrees Celsius.

It is a tool (usually copper) that is heated and then applied to a joint to melt the solder and heat the metal so it will accept the solder. Some are heated by electricity some are heated in a small furnace.

it heats up your solder and makes it melt, it makes the joints in your circuit firm. it makes a little blob of solder.

A soldering iron is used to heat solder, which is a mixture of metals with a low melting point. The molten metal is allowed to flow around, for example, two pieces of copper. The solder bonds the pieces together when it cools. Flux, a cleaning agent, is usually used to clean the metal so that a good joint is obtained. For electrical work, it typically is used to bond two copper wires together.

it heats up your solder and makes it melt, it makes the joints in your circuit firm. it makes a little blob of solder.

The purpose of soldering machine is to applying heat to two or more adjoining metal parts such that solder may melt and flow between those parts, binding them securely, conductively and hermetically.

That would depend on the alloy (solder) you're going to use, as each filler metal has a different flow temperature. Some soldering irons and guns have variable temperature selections to accommodate various types of solder.

Lead-based solder uses 250 °C to 280 °C or 300 °C while lead-free soldering needs a higher temperature, about 350 °C to 400 °C.

What is a soldering iron stand?

First of all, solder is metal alloy with a low melting point at 200 to 840 degrees Fahrenheit. A soldering iron is a tool used to metal solder to join two metal objects together. Therefore a stand for an soldering iron would just hold it. They usually have metal springs to hold the iron, obviously with a higher metaling temperature. What is cold flow?

It is a term used when soldering with a soldering iron. It means that the solder is not completely up to temperature to make a proper joint. A good solder joint is very silvery in colour and shines when it is done right.

Tools used for soldering?

The main tools for soldering include a soldering iron, a stand for the soldering iron, and solder. You'd likely use other tools such as brushes, picks, heat sinks, solder wick, desoldering irons, etc.

What is the difference between electric soldering iron and ordinary soldering iron?

An electric soldering iron is heated by an electric resistance coil inside. Others may be heated either by a gas(like propane) flame, or by sticking them in a forge between uses.

Why do you think it is best for a soldering iron to have a soldering stand?

Have you ever had a soldering iron roll off the table and land on your wrist, burning a hole that took over a month to heal? I did in 5th grade while building one of the Radio Shack electronics kits I had received for Christmas! Learning from that I made my own soldering stand from a small metal can and poured over a half inch of lead into the bottom from my lead soldier casting set to make sure that the weight of the soldering iron could not tilt the soldering stand!!! I was never going to run the risk of a soldering iron getting away from me again!!!!!

Does a lighter produce as much heat as a soldering iron?

No, lighter can produce 120 degree Celsius temperature where as soldering iron can produce 420 degree Celsius temperature. the soldering iron is used to join two metal wires.

What is soldering iron and how do you use it?

Soldering iron is used in heating the metal for soldering. If you want to learn more about soldering iron visit en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soldering_iron.

Where can I go to get some information on soldering iron?

When you use a soldering iron you would be soldering some kind of metal frame or something because soldering irons are irrelevant to soldering iron. Sorry, not applicable.

What is an example of matter at a higher temperature touching matter at a lower temperature?

Just one exmple of matter at a higher temperature touching matter at a lower temperature is soldering. If we apply a hot soldering iron to solder and copper when making something out of stained glass, the hot soldering iron transfers heat (thermal energy) to the solder and copper (thus melting the solder and causing allowing it to flow).

What is the best soldering iron and tip to use on circuit boards?

Soldering irons come in a variety of sizes and shapes. There is a wide selection of soldering irons, soldering pencils, soldering stations and soldering guns available on market in the USA.Which soldering iron is the best soldering iron for you depends on the soldering work you are planning to do and how often you are planning on using your soldering iron. The following four factors should be taken into consideration when picking a soldering iron that will be used for soldering projects on circuit boards:1) ) type of the soldering tools2 wattage of the soldering iron3)temperature control4) tip size and shapeTypes of soldering toolsAll soldering tools can be divided in four different groups-Soldering pencils-Soldering station-Soldering rework /repair stations systems-Soldering gunsSoldering pencilsSoldering pencils are the simplest (and the cheapest) soldering tool. Soldering pencils are good only for simple do-it-yourself projects. The price range of the soldering pencils is $10-$30Soldering stationsSoldering station consists of two parts: soldering pencil and a power station. Soldering pencil is attached to a power station. Power station controls temperature of the iron tip in the wide range. It automatically keeps the iron tip at an appropriate temperature. Desired temperature of soldering iron is set with knob on the face plate of power station. Soldering station can be used for most of soldering projects. It can be used for soldering of through-hole components on circuit board as well as for soldering of very fine surface-mount components as small as 0603 and 0805. The price range of the soldering stations is $40-$150.Soldering rework /repair stations systemsSoldering rework/repair systems are complex soldering tools which are mostly used in industry or in the high-volume manufacturing facilities. This soldering systems are the most expensive soldering tools since they usually consist of power station and 4 or 5 hand pieces including soldering iron, hot-air gun, tweezers , vacuum pump which is used for the de-soldering work. The price range of the soldering systems is $250-$2500.Soldering gunsI do not recommend using soldering guns for fine soldering projects on circuit boards. The most popular brand names for soldering irons in the USA are Weller, Pace and Hakko. Aoyue soldering irons are less popular brand name in the United States then Weller or Pace. However, Aoyue soldering irons are much cheaper and they are good combination of quality and price. There is a wide selection of iron tips. Iron tips come in different shapes and sizes. For most soldering projects you can use screwdriver tip 0.062" or 0.032". For fine soldering projects and for soldering of small surface-mount components you can use conical tip 1/16".ConclusionI recommend a temperature controlled 50W soldering station. This soldering station will be excellent tool for most of soldering projects. My top recommendations are:-Weller WESD51 soldering station (digital)- Weller WES51 soldering station (analog)- Hakko FX-888 soldering station- Aoyue 2702A soldering station- Pace ST-25 soldering station

What is the definition of soldering stand?

What is the temperature of a soldering iron when it is not in use?

If you leave it plugged in/turned on, it will remain hot. If you unplug it/turn it off, it will reach ambient temperature in 10-30 minutes, depending on the size of the iron and the room temperature.

What should the temperature of a typical soldering iron be when joining two wires?

500-600 degrees Fahrenheit

What is iron tin?

Tinning the Soldering iron is when the hot iron is coated with solder to aid in soldering and heat transfer
