Cholecystitis is the term for inflammation of the gallbladder wall and inflammation of the abdominal lining near the gallbladder It is usually caused by a gallstone in the cystic duct, which is the duct that connects the gallbladder to the hepatic duct. It can also be caused by tumor and bacteria in the ducts. There are other less common causes.

Symptoms of cholecystitis is sharp right upper quadrant pain in your abdomen with pain radiating to the right shoulder, nausea, vomiting, and increased pain with high fat food ingestion.

Bile is made in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. When you eat, bile is excreted into the duodenum of your intestinal tract to help emulsify fats to be absorbed by the intestines.
