Captain James Cook was unable to research anything in Antarctica. He did not actually reach Antarctica itself, as he could not get close enough to the continent. Both times he tried to reach the continent, he was stopped by pack ice and the solid freezing of the ship's sails.

Reis knew of the Antarctica several hundred years before Captain James Cook 'discovered' it as he was crossing it.
Captain James Cook
A naturalist on board his ship discovered penguins in Antarctica.
He wanted to prove that you can travel to Antarctica, without freezing.
The only way to travel to Antarctica in 1911 was by ship. Mawson departed Hobart, heading for Macquarie Island (a sub-Antarctic island 1300 kilometres north of Antarctica), before heading for the Antarctic continent.
Roald Amundsen, Richard E, Byrd, and James Cook
James Cook did not actually reach Antarctica. What he did manage to accomplish was being the first European explorer to cross the Antarctic Circle, doing so twice. He could not reach the continent due to the pack ice and the fact that his sails froze.
You can cook whatever food stuffs and supplies are available -- all of which have been imported to the continent by the government supporting the research station to which the cooking activity is attached.
