Is createin bad for you?

My brothers all took creatine when they were trying to bulk up. I also work at a gym, am training to be an EMT and nurse, and after taking several anatomy and physiology courses we have discussed the effects of different supplements on the human body. The most commonly noted negative side effects from creatine are swelling/bloating (increase in water weight) and noted drop in energy and weight once the product is stopped. Weight gain from using the product is the largest complaint. Creatine works by pulling water into your muscle cells and allowing for increased protein synthesis, thus upping your energy and work load levels. The main effect people search for in creatine is an increase in energy and therefore allowing you to do more reps, weight, and max out at a higher level. However, creatine only works if you use that extra energy boost and actually hit the gym, otherwise you will only grain water weight. An interesting fact is that once humans exit puberty you have the same number of muscle cells for the remainder of your life. You won't make any "new" cells. The only difference between when you're "jacked" and not all has to do with how much protein you are storing in the cells. Also, once muscle (and brain) cells die, they don't regenerate or heal themselves, they're gone forever. Most people can control teir muscle mass with diet and a strict exercise routine that will lead to natural more long-lasting results than creatine. If you're looking for a quick temporary boost I would say go with the creatine but if you're looking for a more long-term deal I would say adjust your diet and workout routine. Be cautious if you have a high-protein diet because it can place a lot of strain on your kidneys if you aren't persistent on keeping hydrated. All of my brothers looked huge on creatine but as soon as they stopped they "shrunk" back down again. Now they're lifting without it and look better than before. I'm not opposed to creatine, I just think that it's a quick-fix not a long-term solution.
