Refered as the Image Maximum or IMAX, this film format is a projection standard and movie format developed by IMAX Corp. of Canada. A number of people are known to have contributed in the development of IMAX namely William C. Shaw, Nicholas Mulders, Roman Kroiter and Graeme Ferguson. Prior to this, efforts were made to improve the visual impact of movies. The very first one was in 1929, when Fox developed the 70mm format called Fox Grandeur. After that, many efforts soon followed including the VistaVision in 1954 and the CinemaScope in 1953.

Ivan Graeme Ferguson, CM (born 7 October 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian filmmaker and inventor who co-invented IMAX. Ferguson was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 1993. He Graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
