around the 5th of semptember but it changes every year. This is when the new school year starts and your birthdate being before or after the 1st of September determines what school year you are in.

Most schools (age 4-16) here start at 8.45 for lessons to begin at 9.00am the day ends around 3 .00 or 3.15 depending on the length of breaks. It is up to the individual school to decide there opening hours as the government only sets the hours children should be schooled rather than when they should be schooled. Because of this there are some schools that open for lessons a little earlier and close a little earlier too, especialy in places with traffic problems. Some schools open for a "club" session before and after school to allow parents to go to work earlier and stay later, the children usually get breakfast, help with home work or do craft and play activities.
