According to The Bible, Moses was the grandson of Kohath, who was alive at the time of the migration from Canaan and lived 133 years, while his son Amran lived 137 years. At the extremes of biological possibility, and assuming the patriarchs really lived to improbably great ages, Moses was born sometime between 15 years and 270 years after the arrival in Egypt and, living to the age of 120 years, died between 135 and 390 years after the arrival. On these calculations, Moses was born between about 1850 and 1600 BCE, and died between about 1730 and 1480 BCE.

Also according to the Bible, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, around 1440 BCE, and died about 40 years later, having lived 120 years. On these calculations, Moses was born about 1520 BCE and died about 1400 BCE.

The Bible tells us that Moses' father was Amran, who lived 137 years, and his grandfather was Kohath, who was one of the Hebrews who migrated to Egypt with Jacob, in 1870 BCE , and then lived to 133 years of age. Accepting these details as accurate, Moses must have been born sometime between 15 years and 270 years after the arrival in Egypt, which means he was born no later than 1600 BCE. He died, aged 120 years, at least 40 years before the Exodus from Egypt, no later than 1480 BCE.

Another way of estimating when the Bible says that Moses lived is to work around the date of the Exodus from Egypt. 1 Kings 6:1 places the Exodus from Egypt approximately 1440 BCE, because this verse dates the Exodus 480 years before the fourth year of Solomon's reign, and the Bible also dates this year of Solomon's reign at 960 BCE. If Moses died forty years later, at the age of 120 years, he lived from 1520 to 1400 BCE, approximately. The discrepancies we see here simply show that the ancient scribes did not have computers to help them with ensuring consistency across different parts of their stories.

According to traditional chronology, Moses lived from 1392 BCE to 1272 BCE. We (Jews) possess an unbroken national tradition in this matter and do not need to resort to calculations.
The narratives of Moses' life have been handed down for over 3,300 years by the entire Jewish nation, and accepted by Christians and Muslims as well. Moses is mentioned many times in the Torah and Rabbinic literature. He is also mentioned by ancient non-Jewish writers going back over 2,300 years, including Hecataeus, Strabo, Alexander Polyhistor, Manetho, Apion, Chaeremon, Tacitus, and Porphyry. Non-religious ancient Jewish sources mention him too, such as Artapanus, Eupolemus, Josephus and Philo.See also:
