While there may be a textbook answer to this question, it would be very misleading to give it an answer. Some of the signatures were given immediately when the document was approved while others waited months before signing. The country was already at war, travel was very difficult, and many of the signers were away tending fields or businesses. It took a great deal of time, effort, expense and courage for delegates to get from South Carolina, New York, or Massachusetts, for example because Britain had already taken military action in these states and others.
