The synaptic gap isn't a region of the brain itself, but a term used to describe the tiny space between an axon terminal and the axon or tissue it is communicating with; so synaptic gaps are spread right throughout both the central and peripheral nervous systems.

A nerve is an enclosed, cable-like bundle of axons in the peripheral nervous system. Within a nerve, each axon is surrounded by a layer of connective tissue called the endoneurium.
Unmyelinated tissue is substantially slower in conducting impulses along the axon. With myelinated axons, the action potential (impulse) jumps from node to node greatly increasing the speed of the impulse.
The part of the peripheral nerve tissue that helps promote regeneration of neurons is the neurolemma. It refers to the thin sheath around a neural axon.
In a typical neuron, sheaths of fatty tissue are called the Myelin sheath. The myelin sheath surrounds parts of the axon of a nerve cell which speeds up neurotransmitters.
