re conect the battery
I put in a new battery and I was unable to start the car; I am wondering if this is due to the fact that I disconnected the alarm some time ago. This is the first time I've taken the battery out since I disconnected the alarm.
The alarm of a 2004 Honda Accord will go off when the battery is disconnected because it is part of the anti-theft systems programing. When the battery is reconnected the alarm automatically arms itself.
No an airbag will not deploy if the battery is disconnected
If your car alarm goes off on your Hyundai Elantra and the engine won't start, disconnect the battery. Leave it disconnected for several minutes.
Not if key is off or battery is disconnected. Not if key is off or battery is disconnected.
If you set the alarm (i.e. lock the car) and then disconnect the battery, the alarm will go off. If you disconnect the battery when the alarm is not set (i.e. when the car is unlocked) the alarm will not go off. (So don't try to nick a locked one).
The alarm might have gotten wet, try disconnecting the alarm. Where can i disconnect the alarm? under the dash? and what would it look like?
I have the same problem with a 1997 Chevy Van. The problem seems to be that GM states that a 50 milliamp draw will kill the battery, and that the alarm system is < 50 milliamp, but I can find out how much less. I have killed several batteries because of this. Now the trick is to put in a new battery. When you connect a new battery, the alarm goes off. To prevent this, with the new battery disconnected, turn the key in the ignition to ON. Make sure the door is closed, and then connect the battery. This prevents the alarm from going off. What I did was to install a battery disconnect switch that I use when the van is sitting for more than a week. Now after it has been sitting for awhile, I go out, put in the key, flip the battery switch, hop back in and the car starts.

My 1994 Golf had an alarm system in it so I'm assuming your car has one too. The alarm has a separate horn which will go off when the battery is reconnected. To turn it off, use the key and lock and unlock one of the front doors a few times. The alarm should turn off at this point. This will happen every time the battery is reconnected so be prepared and leave the key in the door lock when you are about to reconnect the battery, once it is connected and the alarm goes off, turn the key to lock and unlock and the alarm will stop. If the battery is dead the alarm will not go off
Disarm the alarm before removing the battery.
