What to do when a cat does not cover her poop in the litter box?

Take him to the vet right away. A cat that stops bowel movements could be constipated or has sustained injury. Constipation should be left no longer than 48 hours untreated, and of course, injuries are an emergency so should be looked at by a vet immediately.

∙ 14y agoOne of my cats doesn't bury his poop, either. I don't think there's really anything you can do about it.
And, since you're just going to scoop the poop out and flush it down the toilet anyway, does it really matter? At least when the cat doesn't bury the feces, it's easy to find it and scoop it out. If they bury it, you have to dig around in there to find it.

∙ 13y agoWell, you've got to do a couple of things. First, you got to keep the litterbox clean at all times. At lelast, until you get your cat trained. secondly, you've got to watch the cat like a hawk. When they start to go on the floor (I assume this is your problem) pick them up and put them in the litter box. After the cat goes in the box, take your litter shovel and pick it up right away. Keep some of the cats favorite eats. When the cat goes in the box give them a treat right away. The closer you pair the reinforcement to the desired behavior, the sooner they will learn. If you do these things and are vigilante, your cat will learn to do #2 in short order.
Alternatively, some cats are extra fussy and will not defecate in the same box as where it urinates. If your cat absolutely refuses to use the litterbox, try introducing another box and see if the cat uses that.
