the roaches(or cockroaches) live up to a year.
I have been taking care of a cockroach for 18 months (so far) after my cats took one of his legs and and antennae (and no they do not grow back). I feed him organic mixed berry powder and dried cat food crushed up into cockroach bite sizes. He seems to like the berry mix best. He is still doing great after 18 months and he was an adult when I got him so we shall see how long he will live. Oh and of course he gets plenty of fresh filtered water!

It is slow and hit and miss, even when properly applied, It can't be too thick or too thin and must stay dry. You must treat all voids, cracks etc where they hide. That being said Boric Acid is better although still slow but is one of the few pesticides that doesn't break down so will literally last forever if it stays dry. Borid is the brand you want, the cheap knock offs are lumpy. Use that and gel baits combined since Borid is non repellant and won't reduce it's effectiveness, you can literally bait right over it. You can even use clear silicone to exclude them by sealing all gaps you can gin that are the right size in your cabs. remember, they like something touching both sides of their bodies, so look for cracks about that size.
After treatment roaches may still be seen for a couple of weeks or longer. It all depends on what type of dwelling the roaches were exterminated in.
