I would suggest staying on the same diet and watching your dog carefully for a few days. Provided your dog is an adult, is not vomiting and is otherwise acting like his normal self except for the diarrhea, you can wait and watch at home for a few days to see if it resolves itself.
You can also try adding some fiber, such as beets or pumpkin, to help "dry out" the diarrhea - just make sure you get the canned variety with no sodium added so you don't make the diarrhea worse with a salt overload.
You need to stop all the usual food you usually give your dog and stick to light meals for 48 hours. Light meals is boiled fish, rice, crackers and scrambled egg. If the diarrhea doesn't stop in 48 hours or your dog becomes sick, make a vet appointment asap.
Give the dog water and do not feed the first day. The next day boil some hamburg
drain the fat out and cook some white rice. Feed the dog small meals for 3 days
and then slowly start back with the regular food mixed with this. You also may use
baby food, chicken cottage cheese and yougut also. Besure the dog drinks water
and no treats. Vets do have a pill to stop this, however, this should work and some vets allow dogs to have childrens immodium but do ask first.
Dogs can get diarrhea from many different things or diseases. I would highly recommend you take your dog in to see your Veterinarian to find out the reason for the diarrhea. Take in a fecal sample too for the Vet to check. Internal parasites, sudden change in food, eating junk stuff, viruses such as Parvo, salmon poisoning, etc. can cause diarrhea. You need to know what is causing the diarrhea so that is the most important reason to take your pet to see your Vet for a good check up. In the mean time, just feed a bland diet such as rice & chicken or a prescription diet of I/D. You can only get that dog food from your Vet so just take your dog in too. After things are all fixed up, make sure you are feeding your dog a good name brand of dog food, such as Natural Choice, Innova, etc. Don't feed some cheap generic brand of dog food.
Cooked chicken with or without a little cooked rice help settle an upset stomach and help bind up any food in the dog's system. A little probiotic yoghurt is said to help also, as it promotes healthy gut bacteria.
Be sure to encourage your dog to drink enough water. Having diarrhoea for any period of time can cause dehydration which can cause more health problems.
Check with your vet. We have successfully used cooked ground beef and rice and poached chicken breast...in small amounts.
You need to take it to the Vet. There's something definitely wrong with the dog.
