Type services.msc in the Run box. Once the console initializes, you can manually change the setting for startup in the Startup Type column. You have four options: Automatic(Delayed Start), Automatic, Manual, and Disabled.
You can use the MSconfig tool that Microsoft Windows provide in Windows XP and later operating systems.Go to run, type msconfig.exe and hit the Return Key.Now look for the Startup tab and uncheck/check the objects that are supposed to run on startup.
xp and vista have the same tool... start/run type in msconfig go to the startup tab and disable any startup program you want
