There are different tools for different calipers. Need to know what year, make and model you have and if you are removing a front or rear caliper.
a brake caliper tool (really)
you can get the tool that removes the rear calipers from any autozone or advance auto parts. they rent it to you and you leave a deposit. the tool is designed to turn the caliper as it is being pushed in. if this tool is not used the caliper will fail.
Hose?
Remove Wheels Make sure Emergency brakeis released Remove caliper mounting bolts Remove caliper Remove Rotor Re-install caliper Remove brake pads Use special tool (available at Sears or auto parts not expensive) to retract piston into caliper (Threads in clockwise) Replace pads and re-assemble
I use a large C- clamp and have had good results doing so.
Put emergancy brake on, then jack up the front enfd remove tires, use a 3/8 Allen tool to remove the caliper mounting bolts. Then remove the brake caliper, and remove pads from caliper. Next push piston caliper into the caliper, reinstall the caliper. Re install the front wheels, lower the vehicle, pump the brakes until they are hard once again, and your ready to drive again.
there is no special tool to remove them but one is needed to compress them to get them back on for the rear.
You will need a tool to wind back the caliper piston or a steering wheel puller will do the job.All the standard stuff choc wheels jack up front remove wheels .Remove the two bolts top and bottom at the back of the caliper remove the caliper remove the outer brake pad use the tool to wind back the piston all the way remove the inner pad and place new pads in replace caliper and bolts pump the brake pedal until hard and replace wheels .
You would need a T40 Torx Bit to remover the caliper pins.
Caliper. Micrometer
Remove caliper mounting bolts Slide caliper off rotor Use a "C" clamp to fully retract piston into caliper body If parking brake is used on this caliper piston is threaded and a special tool (not expensive) is required to thread piston into caliper body
You will need a hex key to remove the brake caliper on an '05 Navigator. There will be two bolts that need to be taken off with the hex key.
