Hi, The fuel pump assembly is located in the fuel tank. To remove or replace it you have to drain and lower the fuel tank to get to it. There is also a "special" tool that is used to loosen and tighten the sealing ring at the top of the tank, so if you are planning on doing this job, you might want to get the tool first. Good Luck, Greg
To install a new fuel pump you must first remove the muffler, and then the tank protector, and then disconnect all the fuel lines including the ones with the coupler on them that requires a special tool to do so, then you support the fuel tank, unbolt the fuel tank, lower the fuel tank slowly until you can disconnect the rest of the fuel lines and filler line, then remove the tank, remove the fuel pump from inside the tank and put the new assembly in where you took out the old one. When installing the new pump assembly make sure you use a new tank seal or you will be doing all this again very soon.

Pay attention to the alignment marks on the pump and tank before removal or mark with a Sharpie. The whole pump unit costs about $500 or a pump only can be installed for much less -- $75 or so.
First begin with an empty fuel tank if possible. You will need to remove the two strapes that hold the fuel tank and cover pan in place. If you have fuel in the tank, you will need a jack to support the weight of the tank. You may have to remove the fuel filler hose at the end of your tank. There is not much slack in the fuel lines, so don't drop the tank to far. Only enough to reach the fuel pump located on the top of your tank. You will need a special tool to release the two fuel lines from your pump. (available at local auto parts store) The fuel pump screws off the tank, pull out and replace.
