The Great Sphinx
What tools were used to make the great sphinx of Egypt?
The estimates show that the tools used by the workers were copper chisels and hammers. There is also evidence that suggests The Great Sphinx was supposed to be built even bigger than it currently is, but the workers left the work in a hurry.

What happened to the noses on the sphynx?
not every sphinx has got its nose missing.the sphinx your probably thinking of it the one on the Giza plateau,by the pyramids.there are many theories as to what happened to them.most put it down to natural erosion.I've also heard a theory that Alexander the great ,when he conquered Egypt, wanted to make the monument less recognisable as Egyptian so he ordered the nose ,which was very noticable as African,to be hacked off.

Why did people make the great sphinx?
This is not known. However it is generally accepted that the Sphinx was built by Pharaoh Khafre - c2575 to c2465 BC - during the Old Kingdom, the age of the great pyramid builders. Although the date of its construction is uncertain, the head of the Great Sphinx now is believed to be that of the pharaoh Khafra. There is possible evidence that the monument may be older than this for an inscription within the Great Pyramid, dating from 600 BC, records that Pharaoh Khufu-Khafre's father-carried out repairs on the Sphinx's tail and headdress.
