The Gunsmoke television series was filmed on a studio backlot in Hollywood, CA. While the series occasionally shot on location, most of the outdoor sets were located on what is now called CBS Studio Center at 4024 Radford Avenue, in the Studio City area of the San Fernando Valley. Previous to CBS taking it over, the lot had been used by the Republic Pictures studio, which is best known for many action adventure serials and westerns. Earlier, it had been the location of the Mack Sennett studios, famous for the Keystone Kops silent film comedies. The exterior scenes for the Gilligan's Island series, around the lagoon, were also filmed on this studio lot, but the lagoon was paved over and is now the site of a parking garage.
Gunsmoke City, a fictional setting from the classic television show "Gunsmoke," was not an actual location but rather a constructed set used for filming. While the show was set in the American West, the city itself does not exist today. However, fans of the series can visit various filming locations and museums dedicated to "Gunsmoke" in California and other parts of the West. These sites often celebrate the show's legacy and the era it depicted.
