A good portion of the filming took place in the area that is now The Highlands Ranch subdivision south of the Denver metro area. Also, much of the filming was done along the banks of the South Platte River north of Denver and out towards the Greeley area. At the time of filming, the Highlands Ranch area was known as Phipps Ranch and owned by the Phipps family who also owned the local NFL franchise Denver Broncos. Shortly after completion of filming the Phipps family sold the entire ranch to Mission Viejo of California who subsequently developed it into the housing subdivision that it is today
