The A train (of the A-C-E, the blue line). The A train runs between the Howard Beach Station and the 59th Street-Columbus Circle Station, which is at the southwest corner of the park (8th Avenue and 59th Street, aka Central Park West and Central Park South. The portion of 8th Avenue that borders the park is called Central Park West, and the portion of 59th Street that borders the park is called Central Park South. Also, the portion of 110th Street that borders the park is called Central Park North. However, the portion of Fifth Avenue that borders the park is NOT called Central Park East, for some reason).

Also, you can transfer at 59th Street-Columbus Circle to the Uptown C (of the A-C-E) or the Uptown B (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line). Both of these trains stop at several points along Central Park West: 59th and CPW (Columbus Circle), 72nd and CPW, 81st and CPW, 86th and CPW, 96th and CPW and 110th and CPW.

The A is an express train, so the next stop after 59th Street-Columbus Circle is 125th Street. Remember, 110th Street is the north border of the park. So if you want to get off at 72nd, 81st, 86th, 96th, 103rd or 110th, you must transfer at 59th to the Uptown C or B trains.

What is the closest subway station to John F. Kennedy?

The closest subway stop is the Howard Beach Station on the A train (of the A-C-E, the blue line). You can take the shuttle, called the AirTrain, from inside the JFK terminals to the Howard Beach Station. You can also take the AirTrain to the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue Station on the E train and the J-Z (the brown line). But the AirTrain ride from JFK to the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue Station is almost 4 times as long as the ride from JFK to the Howard Beach Station.

Distance from John F. Kennedy to Penn Station?

The AirTrain doesn't go to Penn Station. It's just a shuttle that takes you from JFK to the nearest subway stations (the Howard Beach Station on the A train, and the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue station on the E train and the J-Z line). The Howard Beach station is much closer to JFK (you'd only go to the Sutphin-Archer station if you need to take the E or J-Z). You can take the A train to Penn Station, so get off the AirTrain at the Howard Beach station. Then take the Manhattan-bound A train from Howard Beach to 34th Street-Penn Station. The ride on the A train is about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. The AirTrain takes about ten minutes. So you're looking at about an hour and a half trip from the airport to Penn Station.

How do you get to John F. Kennedy airport from New Haven Connecticut?

You can take MetroNorth Railroad from New Haven to Grand Central Station, and from there you can take the subway to JFK. See the second link for MetroNorth Railroad Schedules. You will need to click the icon on the right, where it says, "Click for lines EAST of Hudson - Harlem, Hudson, New Haven," to find train schedules from New Haven to Grand Central Station. At Grand Central Station, you will need to take the S shuttle train (color code grey) west across 42nd Street, from Grand Central (East 42nd) to Times Square (West 42nd). Then walk through the tunnel that connects the 42nd Street-Times Square Station to the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal Station. At the 42nd Street-Port Authority Station, get the Brooklyn-bound (Downtown) A train (of the A-C-E, the blue line). Take the Downtown A train to the Howard Beach Station in Brooklyn. At the Howard Beach Station, you can catch a shuttle (called the AirTrain) that drops you off inside the JFK terminals.

What is the walking distance between howard beach station and John F. Kennedy airport terminal 1?

It is 4 or 5 miles and not really walkable (though I guess you could cut through various parking lots) as there are not many sidewalks. There is a shuttle train ($5) between JFK and Howard Beach Station. From station you can take the A subway train to Manhattan. It takes about 35 minutes to go from Howard Beach to lower Manhattan, 50 minutes to Penn Station (worse during off hours as the train goes local in Brooklyn). For info on the shuttle try checking the web site of the Port Authority of NY and NJ: http://www.panynj.gov/airtrain/ Enjoy NY!
