This train is the Indian-Pacific. It is named this because it spans the continent between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is considered one of the great railway journeys of the world.
The train departs Sydney mid-afternoon and goes through Broken Hill and Adelaide, and involves a three day/night journey to travel the 4352 km (2720 miles). Early on the second day, it stops at Broken Hill, then reaches Adelaide that evening. The third night the train travels through Kalgoorlie in the Western Australian goldfields, and stops there a tour of the town at 11pm.
The Overland connects Melbourne to Adelaide where one can switch to the Indian - Pacific.
