According to the 1998 Mercury Sable Owner Guide :
( Motorcraft MERCON-V automatic Transmission Fluid )
Is it over full?
The automatic trans is a sealed unit with no trans dipstick.
On a 1996 Mercury Sable : The automatic transaxle ( transmission ) fluid level dipstick is near the firewall and the brake fluid reservoir ( looking from the FRONT of the vehicle it is to the left of the reservoir )
Down the same tube that holds trans dipstick. Use a trans funnel, long, flexible and correct size.
will mercon lv work in my chevrolet
It depends on where the fluid is leaking from. It could be a hose, seal, gasket, or cranked case.
On the driver side, under the hood. Look back near the firewall down low. There is a red dipstick handle to check fluid level. Take out the dipstick and using a long funnel, add the trans fluid until full.
6.8 pints of 75W-90 Manual Trans Gear Lube.
Its on top of the trans as you're looking down. Its not internal. I've replaced mine on my 1997 Sable.
2.8 quarts on a manual trans. good luck getting it in though. trying to figure that one out.
If you have the metric trans, the pump is in the top of trans body, near to the engine. You must remove trans to get at the pump.
