The FSM calls for a 'Dexron' type transmission fluid.
regular automatic transmission fluid
there are 2 different types of trans fluid. one is for Fords, the other type is for all other cars....
Drain out the transmission fluid and replace with the correct fluid. Some types of transmission fluid are incompatible with other types of tranmssion fluid or with the transmission itself, and can destroy your transmission.
ATF
it depends on the make & model of the transmission.
The type should be engraved in the automatic transmission fluid dipstick . ( if you have the 5 speed manual transmission it would have Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid in it from the factory )
Mercron transmission fluid is used in a 1978 Ford Thunderbird. Type F fluid can also be used but should not be mixed.
According to the 1999 Ford Explorer owners manual ( Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid ) is used in all of the automatic transmissions and the 5 speed manual transmission * the type of transmission fluid used should be engraved on the automatic transmission fluid dipstick *
you can try transmission fluid
Honda ATF-Z1 transmission fluid or a multi-import transmission fluid that meets the requirements for ATF-Z1.
Transmission fluid should not be used in place of power steering fluid. Power steering fluid is less compressible so that it can transfer power to different systems. Transmission fluid is meant for lubrication and has higher dimulsibility than power steering fluid.
