If you just want a drop in swap, any 4L60E - that is it. You can upgrade to a 4L80E or 6L80E, but the latter will require new driveshafts, and they'll both require repinning the ECM connections and reflashing the ECM. Same deal if you want to go to a manual transmission (NV3500 or NV4500) or non-electronic automatic transmission (4L60 or 700R4)... the ECM will need to be reflashed.
1/2 tons used the 4L60E transmissions ONLY. 3/4 tons used the 4L80E in them ONLY.
It is a 4L60E
That would be a 4L60E transmission.
The 88 year transmission will not work in the 99 because of the computer in the 99. You need a 4L60E from the year 1993 to 1995 and then it goes to 1998 to 1999. 1996 and 1997 transmissions will not work. Now if your 99 is the NEW BODY DESIGN truck then you can use these year 4L60E transmissions. From LATE MONTH 1999 to 2006 will work.
4L60E or 4L80E depending on engine, 1500, 2500, or 3500.
a 1988 tranny should be the 700r4 aka 4l60 it's sometimes referred to.. a transmission in a 1997 should be the 4l60e which is an electronic transmission so no. lol
NO it will not interchange. Even thow they are both 4L60E transmissions the bell housings have a different design. Won't work.
