Elaeagnus multiflora (Goumi, Gumi, Natsugumi, or Cherry silverberry), is a species of Elaeagnus native to China, Korea, and Japan.
Would this be the bumble berry? Very long thorny canes, stems with clusters of flowers and then fruit. Large red berries that turn dark purple. Like giant raspberries. Some are sweet and some are not.
It would help identification if we knew what country the questioner lived in. It could be the hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna ) in the U.K. or C. arkansana in the U.S.A.

Smilax herbacea L. is most likely what you are looking at, or something within the same Smilax family. The berries hang from a single stem in a tight cluster resembling a dimpled golf ball. The berries begin as green clusters and ripen to a dark purple or black in the fall.
