There are many factors that turned the tide in favor of the Allies in WW 2. Perhaps the most significant military operation that began to force Germany to retreat from France was the Allied invasion of Normandy, France in 1944. This made an active two front war for Germany. This seriously hampered Germany's ability to stay in the war.
