The most obvious was Operation Overlord (also known as D-Day; Normandy Invasion), but equally important was the US-Royal Navy winning the Battle for the Atlantic against the German U-boats who came close to stopping America's resupply of Britain.
The biggest one was D-Day. It established a solid beachhead on the European Continent in the North. Operation Barbarossa that invaded Italy was another set back. The Russian front drained resources away from other activities.

I think you are a bit confused. "Appeasement" was not a part of the Versailles Treaty. This refers to the actions (or really lack of actions) taken by the Allied powers when Germany began violating the agreements that ended World War 1.

Say what? I am confused. The war with Japan and the Allied Forces began when the Japanese Military bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. If you are asking about Hiroshima, Japan then I guess I better tell you an atom bomb was dropped on it by the Allied Forces and it was the catalyst for getting the Japanese Emperor to surrender.

During World War II, the Battle of Okinawa both began and was fought to its bloody conclusion because of the Allied intent to secure an important base close to Japan's home-islands -- and the Japanese intent to deny the island to the Allies. Securing the island achieved the Allied goals, but at a great price in military and civilian deaths.
