This Q&A is about light colours. Paint colours are substances, and different from light colours. If you hold up a glass prism to a beam of sunlight, you'll see the light form a rainbow of colours. This is called the spectrum. It consists of all the colours that make up "white" light.Although you might be able to see seven colours in the spectrum, the white light is really made up of three basic colours. These are called the primary colours because they cannot be made from any other colours. The primary colours of light are red-orange, green, and violet blue. The other colours you see in spectrums or rainbows are made by a mixture of the primary colours. When the naked eye looks at the spectrum, it can see three mixed colours, which are called secondary colours. The secondary colours in light are green-blue, yellow, and magenta-red. You can produce these colours by mixing the primary colours in certain combinations.
You can not make Blue. It is one of the three primary colours. the other two are red and yellow.
The three primary colours in painting are Red, Yellow & Blue. The secondary colours are the result of a mixture of two of the primary colours: Red & Blue - Purple; Red & Yellow - Orange; and Blue & Yellow - Green.
Depending on the density of the two colours, and the amount of paint that you are mixing, you will get a range of purple to lavender colours.
Secondary colors are made by joining primary colors together. Red and yellow make orange. Blue and red make purple. Blue and yellow make green. Orange, purple and green are secondary colors. You can make all different colors by varying the amount of each color you use.
You can't make grey you can only make brown, orange, green and purple, but purple is close. Well I beg to differ. I added blue and red to get a light, light purple. I added a few drops of yellow and got the color of cement. It was perfect. So it can be done, just need patients and play with it. I just made a steel grey by accident. Mix two drops blue, two drops green, and two drops red with about 2 tbsps of white icing!
grey and white
Two colours are complementary if lights of those colours add to make pure white light. Complementary colours are not the same as complementary pigments (or paints).
Black and white. Black being used as the primary colour, and then white being used to lighten the black to a more grey-like colour. The amount of white to black colours you put together, will determine how light or dark the grey is.
