There aren't European countries in the Americas, but if you mean colonies, the first was the United States of America. The second was Haiti.
Britain, France and Spain were the first countries to colonize in the New World. Spain was the first, since it was the most powerful European country, adn it colonized Mexico and the West. France's colonies were farther north, in what is now Canada. Britain was last to colonize and it had the 13 bristish colonies split in three colonies: New England, Middle, and Southern colonies.
The result was that Spain ended up controlling more of North and South America than all the other countries.
The first counties to establish colonies in America were Spain, France, and Great Britain
Spain was the first European country to establish a successful trade in luxury items.
The Portuguese Empire was the longest colonial European empire, with its inception dating back to its capture of Cueta in North Africa in 1415 CE. With its European borders safe from attack, Portugal was free to expand and explore other regions. It became the first European nation to explore and establish colonies in west Africa.
This was a time of imperialism, in which European countries fought for land and resources in other lands. This was the First Age of Imperialism, that included North and South America.
