How do you change 2002 Chevy silverado instrument cluster lights?

Like all the modern GM products (mine included) the (miniature)dash lights used are now soldered directly to a circuit board in the rear of the cluster. These lights are not meant to be replaced by the average Joe (but they can be) If you have access to a specialty electronics shop such as B&E electronics you can obtain the bulbs you need. However you will also require a electric pencil type soldering gun a solder sucker (a syringe type of thing that sucks up melted solder), and some patience Here's what you do: Remove the cluster from the vehicle, carefully and keeping all parts in order disassemble the cluster, once you have taken the cluster apart and gotten down to the printed circuit board, you will see small bulbs soldered directly to the circuit board, those are the cluster lights and where the unsoldering of the old bulbs and replacement with new bulbs will be done. If all this seems like too much work the other options are: Replacing the cluster with a re-manufactured unit (costly and involves reprogramming the cluster and possibly the anti-theft system as well) but a lot less work, or removing the cluster and taking it to a electronics repair shop to have the bulbs replaced by them. (My recommendation since the repair shop technicians will have the necessary tools and access to the bulbs and...everything else that goes along with a complicated job like this, also this method will have the added advantage of not having to reprogram anything, since you will be reinstalling your original instrument cluster. Hope this makes light of a complicated task that shouldn't be....Chris.

What type of light bulb is used in the analog clock in the dash of a 2001 Chrysler 300M?

Where is the bulb location for the dash lights on a 1998 Ford Explore Sport?

Replacing these bulbs is a headache. I highly recommend having this work done at a qualified shop. At the very least purchase a Haynes or equivalent repair manual for your vehicle. Its worth the twenty bucks or so. This involves removing the instrument cluster to access the bulbs installed in the rear of the assembly. The hood and brake release handles must be removed along with the plastic trim panel below the steering wheel and in some cases the stamped steel reinforcing panel behind that. Remove the radio and its trim panel (I got lucky and the radio came out with the trim far enough that I did not need to disconnect any wiring). Remove the plastic trim around the instruments. Do not remove the screws securing the clear lens to the cluster! Look for several screws around the cluster securing it to the dash structure. Be especially careful when working the cluster out of the dash! It will only come out so far due to the wire harness connections in the back of the cluster. You may be able to reach the burned out bulb assy. without disconnecting the harness. The bulbs are housed in small 1/4 turn type plastic fixtures 'plugged' into the back of the cluster. BE CAREFUL HERE!!! The printed circuit is made of a thin plastic sheet that is secured by connections to the guages, bulbs and the wiring harness! These connections and/or circuit can be easily damaged! I can only imagine how much this would cost to replace. It is best to replace all of the bulbs at this time since you have already gotten this far and are probably swearing to never work on a vehicle again. Re-assembly is basically reverse of removal. Good Luck!

How do you replace instrument lights on a Mercedes 560SL?

Replacing light bulbs within the instrument cluster can be something of a pain in the ass. And, because it is such a pain, I suggest replacing all of the bulbs at the same time. I assume that we're just talking about the instrument lighting, and not the idiot lights on the bottom. You're going to need a big socket...I believe it's a 27mm, and a ratchet extention, and the ratchet. If you have an air bag, you have to disable it. Remove the airbag housing carefully...and then remove the steering wheel. You should make sure of the position of the steering wheel...it should be straight in line...and remember to pull the ignition key out of the ignition...otherwise the steering wheel won't lock, and you won't be able to loosen the nut. Slowly work the instrument cluster out of the dash housing. If you have small hands, you should be able to remove the two top bulb holders buy pushing in gently and turning 90 degrees. Slide the holders out. There are two small bayonet type bulbs to replace. There are a couple of other lamps to replace also...they are bigger bayonet bulbs...I believe there are 2 of them. They are the same size bulbs as the idiot lights take. Go to a local MB dealer for the little bulbs because they are hard to find in most places. I did find them at Auto Zone a while ago. The instrument lighting for the heater/ac, and utility switches are mainly lit by optic strands with the light source coming from behind the center cluster and temperature wheel. They use those tiny bayonet bulbs as well. As I said, this can be a pain in the ass...but after you do it once, you should be able to do it much easier...its just a lot of work to do. And remember to check all the bulbs in the instrument cluster as long as you're there. That's about it...oh...make sure you slowly re-insert the instrument cluster back into the dash evenly...check up-down and left and right...it can be tricky too....its held in by a rubber gasket around the entire instrument cluster. And be careful with that air bag...you don't want to set it off.
