The first cell phones were large, in a bag, looked like a dial phone, and had a battery that took up the entire bottom of the bag with the phone on top. It was very heavy and hard to carry. Calls were expensive to make and it didn't work in many places. It took several years before there were enough cell towers to prevent dropped calls.
