Bonds that occur between covalently bonded molecules are known as hydrogen bonds.

Hydrogen bonds are so named for the fact that these bonds almost always involve hydrogen. Water is a good example of hydrogen bonding. The slightly positive hydrogen ends of water molecules are attracted to the slightly negative oxygen ends. This attraction pulls water molecules very close together. It is the reason that liquid water is more dense than solid water (ice), wherein the molecules are fixed in a crystalline formation, and cannot undergo hydrogen bonding.

What is the coordinate bonding and what is the difference between it and the covalent bonding?

Covalent bonding involves two or more atoms sharing electrons. Coordinate covalent bonding is just an attraction that molecules have for other molecules based on the asymmetrical distribution of electrons in those molecules, creating negatively charged and positively charged regions (and hence, an attraction between the negatively charged regions of one molecule and the positively charged regions of another molecule).

Why is covalent bonds polar?

There are two hydrogen atoms. Hydrogen is positively charged. That means that there is a 2+. There is one oxygen atom. Oxygen is negatively charged. This means that there is a 1-. (2+) - (1-) = 1+ charge A water molecule is polar because one side of the molecule is positively charged and the other is negatively charged due to it's molecular structure.

What a ion?

An ion is a positively or negatively charged atom or molecule.

Why water is polar covalent bond?

Describe a molecular dipole?

molecule or part of a molecule that contains both positively and negatively charged regions

Is C10H8 an ionic or a covalent bond?

Yes that is the chemical eqation for sugar and it is a covalent bond. Yes that is the chemical eqation for sugar and it is a covalent bond.

Can the term molecule be applied to both an ionic and a covalent bond?

No. Molecules are formed from covalent bonds, usually between nonmetals. Ionic compounds are formed by ionic bonds from the electrostatic attraction of positively and negatively charged ions, generally between metals and nonmetals.

What is the meaning of the term polar applied to chemical bonding?

A polar bond is a bond in which there is a molecule has a slightly positively charged end, and a slightly negatively charged end; there is unequal sharing.

A bond that forms between a positively charged hydrogen atom of one molecule and a negatively charged region of another molecule is a?

Hydrogen Bond

What is the primary attractive force among the polar molecules in liquid hydrogen chloride?

Polar molecules have a positively charged pole and a negatively charged pole. The positively charged pole of one molecule will attract the negatively charged pole of another molecule, in accordance with Coulomb's Law.

Is MgPO4 a ionic or covalent bond?

Magnesium Phosphate is an ionic molecule, it has a positively charged metal (Magnesium) and a negatively charged nonmetal portion (phosphate group) with a net zero charge since the charges cancel each other out.

What type of bond between the atoms forming water molecules?

Hydrogen bonds are the strongest intermolecular force between water molecules, it occurs between a negatively charged oxgen atom of one water molecule and the positively charged hydrogen atom. This is the strongest inter molecular force there is.
