green coolant is what goes in there but GO5 would be the upgrade coolant

According to the 1998 Ford Escort owners manual ( 5W-30 ) is used in the 2.0 liter SOHC and DOHC engines
Ford recommends 5w30 to be used. There are no recommendations as far as synthetic vs conventional go.
According to the 1999 Ford Escort owners manual : ( 5W-30 engine oil is used in the 2.0 liter SOHC engine ) and also the 2.0 liter DOHC , Zetec engine
Ford recommends that you use Ford Premium Gold H-OAT coolant in your 1998 Mustang. There is a universal type of OAT coolant that can also be used, but some mechanics suggest that it will destroy your engine's gaskets if you use it.

134a refrigerant
I was looking at the 2001 Ford Ranger Owner Guide and it shows that Ford used two types : Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant ( green colored meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A ) or Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant ( yellow colored meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1 ) The Owner Guide also shows ( add the coolant type that the vehicle was originally equipped with ) I guess that is fine if you are the original owner and have never changed to a different color antifreeze
The factory coolant is a red, five year, HOAT type coolant.
It is known as a Ford G5M 5-speed manual transaxle. That is the only one, the SR series of Escort ZX2 used the same transaxle with a Centerline street/strip type clutch.
