A good drill is important for use on concrete walls, but the bit you use can be just as necessary. A hammer drill with bit that has a carbide or diamond tip would be a good recommendation, remember that using goggles is vital because of the concrete dust.

Are concrete or steel walls better for an inground swimming pool?

Steel walls are currently the lowest quality wall for a swimming pool, with the exception of Cyprus wood (if still available). Concrete (not gunite) is superior to any other wall, but a pool with concrete walls generally also has a concrete bottom. In other words, it is a concrete swimming pool. The most popular wall today for vinyl liner pools is fiberglass and, with the possible exception of concrete, is the best possible choice.

What is the best battery operated drill to drill holes in concrete blocks?

That's a tough task for a battery operated tool. You really need a hammer drill. There's a nice Milwaukee cordless hammer drill at Sears but it costs $350. My corded hammer drill cost only $79. To me that is a huge difference for the convenience of cordless.

How do you drill through copper safely?

Use a titanium bit for best results. Clamp the piece of copper to a piece of wood if possible, so that the wood supports it from underneath, and give the drill bit a place to go once it goes through the copper. Wear safety gloves and glasses to keep from being injured by small shards of metal. When you drill through it, use a fast spinning speed with the drill, but don't apply a lot of pressure, just allow the drill bit to slowly work its way through the metal.

An electric drill is very efficient. In order to achieve the best results , the type and size of drill should be considered. The reason for the use of the drill, timber, concrete or metal linked to the correct drill bit, high speed steel (HSS) or masonry. Consider if drill only or a hammer action is required. Drill only for timber and metal or hammer action for masonry. Think about the choice between mains powered or cordless drills. Above all, think about what lies beneath the surface of the material you are drilling into. Could be a water pipe, could be an electric cable. If you are buying a drill, invest in a Detector as well.
