Krakatau or Anak-Krakatau is a Caldera forming volcano. Krakatoa is the re-emergence of the original volcano Krakatoa which blew itself apart in a massive V.E.I. 6 eruption in 1883 that completely destroyed and submerged the volcano. It later re-surfaced and was named Krakatau after rebuilding itself from the caldera it had formed. The volcano erupts explosively almost always, although the eruptions are of varying strengths and degrees. Its last eruption was in 2010. The volcano is composed primarily of Rhyolite, yet has shown intrusions of much hotter Basalt into its eruptions in the past.
Krakatoa was a volcanic eruption, and probably the most destructive that we know about in modern times. it literally destroyed itself in 1883 and we have evidence that the tsunami it generated went sixty miles inland on java. i saw a show about it that said they could actually hear the explosion in India. the caldera reformed in a slightly different location and it is now called anak Krakatoa.
Krakatoa's paroxysmal explosion was "phreatomagmatic" . Ocean water entered the magmatic chambers of the volcano when its walls begun to rupture. Super heated steam built tremendous pressure which, in turn, resulted in the large explosion of the volcano. The violent explosion of released gases blasted huge quantities of ash, cinders, pumice, bombs, and larger blocks skyward. The explosion was followed by the collapse of the volcanic remnants into the empty magmatic chambers, thus forming a submerged caldera.

No. The term compostie volcano describes a kind of volcano, not a kind of volcanic eruption. The Soufrière Hills on Montserrat is indeed a composite volcano, however, whether it is erupting or not.
