Transform and normal faults form along mid-ocean ridges such as the Mid-Atlantic ridge.
Fault rupture about 14km long alone the southern edge of the city.
In an ideal world this would be a margin that involves some element of compression, so you're looking at a compressional (orogenic) or subducting margin. Anywhere where the crust is thickened generally involves reverse, also known as thrust, faulting.

You would be looking at the solidified magma closest to the fault between the ridges.

Generally, the person that was changing lanes would be at fault. It would be hard to find fault in the other driver if they were stationary in their lane.
You would find a combination of strike-slip and thrust faults. This is what gives the mountain range the jagged look.
